The Geiranger Fjord
The Geiranger Fjord is one of Norway's most popular fjords. This is the one fjord that Hurtigruten offers a side trip for that fjord experience. It is quite beautiful and spectacular. As one nears the town of Geiranger at the end of the fjord one can view the waterfall flowing in 7 different sections, called the "Seven Sisters". Hurtigruten offers an excursion back down the mountains to Alesund from the fjord location. I would like to do that someday. Princess Cruises stops mid-stream at Hellesylt and offers shuttle service to shore, followed by an excursion over the mountains to the town of Geiranger. The fjord, itself, is so beautiful that I have declined the driving tour from Hellesylt in the past. This time, I wanted to experience the onshore scenery. I had anticipated a lot of precipitous driving, but that was not the case (with the exception of Dalsnibba Mountain. The following photos are those of the ride from Hellesylt to Geiranger.

The Geirangerfjord is surely one of the world's natural wonders, a real sight to behold and the Hurtigruten ships are a great way to see it close up.
Thanks for your comments, Jeff. My husband and I cannot get enough of the Hurtigruten voyages. We hope to try a winter trip sometime.
